POTSDAMER PLATZ 1 – KOLLHOFF TOWER

Architect Hans Kollhoff realised his vision of trans-Atlantic bridge building with this striking structure. Based clearly on the visual language of American skyscrapers of the Art Deco period, this high-rise also has its own unique, German character on account of its peat-fired brick facade. As one of Potsdamer Platz’s three towers, the Kollhoff Tower is now one of Berlin’s new city centre trademarks. The building rises in terraces into a tower which, with its 25 floors, represents one of the prominent features of the Berlin skyline. The building’s interior is also rich in fascinating details. The rear of the building encloses a covered, light-permeated atrium, while the foyer gleams in polished natural stone and white marble embellishments. There are green terraces on the roofs, and a panoramic café on the top floor offers a breathtaking view over Berlin.
