The Green Heart of Berlin
A short walk from Potsdamer Platz brings visitors to the green heart of Berlin. The “Grosse Tiergarten” stretches around Berlin’s Victory Column and “Grosser Stern” where it is crossed by several streets, including the famous Strasse des 17. Juni.
Once the Elector of Brandenburg’s private hunting grounds, Frederick the Great opened the area as a public gardens. Re-landscaped several times and rebuilt after World War II, the Grosse Tiergarten is now a verdant, inner-city island perfect for walking, playing sports or soaking up some sun. Highlights like the English Garden, the New Lake and the House of World Cultures invite guests to linger in this lush urban oasis.
Encompassing circa 210 hectares, the Tiergarten is one of the capital’s largest parks.
