The Fusion of Contemporary Art and Modern Architecture

The five star hotel Grand Hyatt Berlin at Potsdamer Platz houses an extensive collection of contemporary art. Since its opening in 1998, the collection has been continuously expanded. It now includes more than 150 works by more than 26 artists. Those who are interested in art will be inspired by the numerous pictures, sculptures and objects in the lobby, in the restaurant and lounge area as well as on the hotel corridors during a walk through the art hotel. Further works can be found in the suites as well as the function rooms. The collection is curated by the hotel’s interior designer and the Daimler Art Collection. A very special eye-catcher is the blue frame, designed by the artist Gerold Miller, who encourages the guests to enter the hotel lobby for discussion. With this work, Miller questioned the traditional view of art and challenges the viewer, not to look as usual at the center of a work of art, but much more to the edge. The work of art was commissioned for the opening of the Grand Hyatt Berlin and thus also dates back to 1998.
